Home Hardware was founded in 1963 by a group of independent hardware
dealers in Ontario. The goal of the company was to obtain the advantages
of quantity purchasing which would give them the ability to compete
with any form of competition.
The company grew quickly and soon included hardware
stores from Atlantic Canada. The partnership continued to expand
and in 1981, hardware dealers in Western Canada joined forces
to form a group
of Home Hardware stores from coast to coast.
Today, there are more than 1000 Home Hardware
stores located across Canada. As before, they remain independent
dealers, full of great ideas, helpful advice, and active members
of the communities they serve.
The Main Street Home Hardware Building Centre
in Souris was originally opened as a Home Hardware by Mel MacPhee
in 1974. Upon relocating to the Main Street Mall after its
inception in 1980, a new Main Street Home Hardware was opened
under the ownership and management of Mel's son, Alan E. MacPhee.
In 1998 a lumberyard was added to the business
and Main Street Home Hardware Building Centre was born.
The tradition of great service continues as
the business evolves using the latest in computer and electronic
tools
to design,
price and coordinate residential construction.
